Outline of Play

It is September 1937 and storm clouds are gathering in Europe.

In Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, New York, thoughts turn to relatives in danger.  But the Jerome family have their own problems to contend with - illness, poverty and unemployment.

All this is seen through the eyes of 15 year old budding writer, Eugene.  His thoughts are laced with his own worries; how to get to play for the Yankees, and how does he really feel about his cousin Nora ?

This affectionate look at the pain and the joys of growing up in a close, loving family is a fine example of the warmth and wisdom of Neil Simon.
