Lytham Anonymous Players (1932-2025)
The Anonymous Players Dramatic Society was founded in September 1932 with the idea of performing plays of artistic and theatrical merit. Since then, 278 full-length plays have been presented, and many one-acts.
In the early days and until the 1970's the actors were indeed anonymous; no names appearing on any programmes or advertising matter. The inaugural production was The Young Idea by Noel Coward.
Although group membership was reduced between 1939 and 1945, productions continued to be presented throughout the war, usually in the old Jubilee Theatre above the main Co-Op building in Blackpool.
Later productions were presented at the Memorial Hall, Dean Street and the Baptist Church Hall, Station Road, Blackpool. The group then moved down the coast to St Annes Pier Pavilion, Lytham Baths and, since 1984, the Lowther Pavilion.
Sadly, the society was disbanded in Summer 2025 with all remaining financial assets being donated to support Youth Theatre and specific projects in our local area.
Our final production was Stepping Out, an award winning comedy by Richard Harris and we would like to express our thanks to all members past and present and, of course, our audiences over the last 93 years.
Below are a selection of programmes from some recent shows; a list of all past productions will remain here to serve as an archive.
